Each
year as more men and women are released from California’s federal and state
prisons, they are being asked to reenter mainstream society. Fresno Career
Development Institute Inc. assists those who have been incarcerated
and Released within the last 180 days.
Eligibility criteria set forth by the Department of Labor:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older
2. Must be referred through parole or probation

3. The Prisoner Reentry Program only serves those who do not
have violent convictions
4. If born after 1960 participants must be registered with
selective services or be able to show proof that they were
incarcerated between the ages 18 years old and 27 years of age. (The
length of incarceration must be the entire period from ages 18 to 27. If
out of prison 1 day between ages 18 and 27 years old registration is
mandatory no exceptions.
Current CA
identification card or a valid driver’s license and a social security
card is required. Also bring a copy of your RPS CDC 611 Form (You get
it at the time of your release). Or, you can ask your Parole Agent for
a CDC 1502 Referral Form.

Education and Job Readiness Training that provides everything you need
to make sure that your first difficult step forward will be the right
one
A Mentor that is consistent in addressing and working through your
concerns and problems. A Mentor that celebrates your successes.
You will work directly with staff to develop a Career and Life Plan that
will help you to reach your goals. Our staff will help you identify
services that you need such as employment, education, housing,
transportation and mentoring. We will then work with you up to 1 year
to make sure that you are able to successfully stay in your community.
Service Elements
Our goal is to welcome and register parolees into the program within 180
days of their release, and to offer them the following services.
Development of a Career and Life Plan to guide you to a successful
career.
Testing of your skills and interests to determine your Math and Reading
grade levels as well as your Career Preferences (No One Fails.)
Referral to Job and/or Education opportunities that match your needs.
We also offer you a Life and Work Readiness workshop, Resume Assistance,
Educational assistance with GED study, Remedial work, English As A
Second Language, and Computer Tutorials as well as One On One Job
Development.
Vocational Training, On The Job Training and Work Try-Outs.
Direct job placements services for clients with prior work experience.
Supportive Services to assist in the completion of your Individual
Development Plan (Career and Life Plan).
Peer Support Advocates (PSA)
While you are in training, our Community Mentor Liaison will match you
with a Peer Support Advocate (PSA). These volunteers give of their time
and of themselves to act as mentors to our clients who are re-entering
into society. Your PSA will provide one-on-one coaching to assist you
in reaching your life, family and career goals. The role of a PSA is to
help you to modify and prepare yourself for coming home and to provide
you with a unique friendship based on mutual respect and trust. The PSA
is committed to helping you and is fully trained to understand your
needs. These special people will connect you with the right blend of
services and will be there when you truly need to talk to someone.
